PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Database Professional at CSG Systems
July 2008 – Present  (1 year 4 months)

My role at Quaero, a CSG Solution, builds upon my 9 years of hard core T-SQL experience at Strategic Power Systems. I am currently maintaining several large marketing databases for major league sports and healthcare organizations.

Using 64-bit SQL Server 2005 I am responsible for the deployment, maintenance and enhancement of 24×7 marketing data delivery.

Related technologies used to maintain the data include:

NCOA Link (National Change of Address) by the United States Post Office to keep current contact information current;
First Logic, a product by SAP/Business Objects, that is used to cleanse address information and match incoming contact information. The cleanse process ensures we have address information that will get delivered by the post office. The matching process ensures we do not store duplicate contacts;
SQL Server SSIS to automate the processing of incoming and outgoing data;
T-SQL, without a doubt my strongest technology asset, to get the right data delivered on time every time.

Quaero is a great company that offers motivated professionals a rewarding and flexible work environment to hone their skills. I am fortunate to be able to work with and learn from some of the highest achieving professionals in the business.

Owner at Desk Jockey Fitness
July 2005 – June 2008  (3 years)

My time at Desk Jockey Fitness was like an extended sabatical from the information technology space. I was fortunate to be in a position to positively impact the lives and well being of my clients. My training with the CHEK Institute in San Diego is arguably the best in the world for fitness professionals.

As a small business owner I learned many important lessons in the areas of sales and marketing… Subject areas that most hard-core technology professionals don’t have much real world experience with.

Without a doubt, my technology skills gave me a distinct advantage over many of my professional fitness competitors. My web site at the time ranked high on the major search engines for heavily used search criteria in my geography. I also built and maintained an extensive database of clients: past, present and prospective; other fitness professionals, and other business professionals.

The marketing skills I developed as a small business owner positioned me perfectly for my next position with Quaero as a database marketing professional.

Director – Information Technology at Strategic Power Systems, Inc
July 1996 – July 2005  (9 years 1 month)

My 9 years at Strategic Power Systems provided me with a great opportunity to really hone my skills as a technology leader and role model to help up and coming technology super stars.

As a manager for a small business I was responsible for the full gamut of technology issue… from data acquisition and end user reporting all the way down to ensuring the owner’s mobile phone worked when he was traveling in the Pacific Rim.

Some of my most proud moments and accomplishments at SPS had nothing to do with technology. They came unexpectedly as I watched my new hires evolve from awkward technology newbies to seasoned pros. In some cases they were hired on board against the grain of conventional wisdom. Not everyone I hired turned out to be a super star… but they are the ones I remember fondly.

Much of my time spent at SPS was applied to devising database solutions to collect, assimulate, and visualize engineering services data for the power generation industry. My intial background was somewhat limited to Digital Equipment’s VAX/RDB relational engine. Starting with SQL Server 6.5 I learned though the school of hard knox and long nights what works well and what doesn’t work so well with the Microsoft platform.

Like most classically trained programmers, I leaned the hard way how poorly SQL Server processes cursors. Gradually I learned the ropes and finally got to the point where I was totally confident that there was no challenge too big that I could not handle. For example, one applicaiton I wrote involved the use of T-SQL recursion to compute the maintenance schedule (minor and major schedules) of a gas turbine. The requirements were complex but the end solution was elegant. I admit it took me about 3 days of not knowing where to begin when I first tackled the task. But once I got going it was all downhill.

Today I still maintain solid friendships with many of my associates at SPS.
